Writing a New Story
Have you ever felt like the story you’ve always told—about yourself, your past, or your worth—suddenly no longer fits?
It once felt comforting, familiar, even safe. But now it feels like trying to wear a favorite sweatshirt that suddenly suffocates you. You go to speak it out loud, and something deep within recoils. This isn’t me anymore.
That happened to me recently, mid-conversation with a dear friend. I was sharing, for what felt like the hundredth time, why I hadn’t offered group coaching. I started telling an old, familiar story—one I’ve been repeating since childhood.
And suddenly, I felt it. That “ick.” That inner cringe that said:
"This story no longer belongs to you."
It’s the story of not being picked. Not for kickball. Not for cheerleading. Not for the things I put my heart into. It was a tender, protective story rooted in past wounds—one that formed a "guard" within me, always trying to keep me from feeling that same hurt again.
But in that moment, something shifted. Something sacred broke through. My inner wisdom—my Spirit-aligned self—interrupted with a new truth:
"This is no longer your story. This is your block. Stop repeating it. Stop agreeing with it. Stop allowing it to have control over you."
And it was true.
I have been picked—again and again—for the things that were truly meant for me.
So why do I cling to what wasn’t?
That old narrative may have once protected me, but now it only limits me. It keeps me small. Stuck. Disconnected from what’s actually true.
So I made a decision. I’m writing a new story. One where I pick myself—and trust that God already has.
This new story is still unfolding. It’s quieter than the fear-driven one, but it carries a deeper resonance. A steady inner-knowing. A quiet confidence. A ripple effect I can feel already beginning.
If you’re carrying a story that no longer serves you—one that’s run its course—I invite you to join me. (read my new story below)
Journal Prompts - if journaling isn’t your thing, I invite you to simply sit with these, adjust as you need and see what comes to the surface.
What story about yourself do you keep repeating that no longer feels true?
Where did that story originate—and was it ever true?
What wisdom does your most authentic self—your aligned self— say instead?
What new story are you ready to begin writing today?
Power Practices - these are an invitation to choose what feels true to you and gently leave the rest behind.
Name your old story. Speak it out loud or write it down. Witness it without judgment.
Bless and release it. Thank it for protecting you, then declare: “This story has run its course. It no longer defines me.”
Take action from the new story, even if it’s just one small step.
For those of you who want more of a spiritual grounding
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
— Isaiah 43:18–19 (NIV)
My New Story
The old story says I’m not chosen.
The new story says: I choose me and God already has.
The old story says I’m not enough.
The new story says: I am equipped, aligned, and worthy of what’s meant for me.
The old story says it’s not safe to be seen.
The new story says: My presence is needed and my light is welcome.
I am no longer shrinking to fit into something I’ve outgrown.
I’m expanding into my truest self—curious, connected, confident.
I trust in divine timing. I trust in my voice. I trust in the unfolding.
I invite you to do the same.
Comment below and share what your’re ready to release or reclaim. You’re not alone in this. Together, we’re creating space for truth, healing and new beginnings.
With love + encouragement,
Angie
P.S.
I’m opening a few spots for free connection-style discovery calls this month — a relaxed, no-pressure way to explore coaching and see if it might be a fit for you or someone you know.
Also — I’m so excited to share that I have a book signing and reading for my children’s book Song of Friendship coming up in August! I’d love to see you there.
