From Growing Pains to Inner Peace: A Meditation to Support Your Journey

In this week's musing, we explore the discomfort of growth and the power of embracing change. I’ve also created a special meditation, A Peaceful Place Meditation for Relaxation & Reconnection, to help you find stillness and recharge as you move through this season of transformation.

Growth isn't always rainbows and butterflies. Let’s get real about the discomfort that comes with it—how do you navigate the transition from who you are to who you’re becoming? And, what if you don’t even know who you’re becoming? How can you figure that out? The truth is, our beliefs shape our behavior and our behavior shapes our reality. But how do you shift your thoughts to create lasting change?

I often look to Mother Nature for guidance, along with my faith, reminding myself that, like the seasons, I too am cyclical. I follow the natural flow of growth and change. This season of Lent, for example, is a perfect reminder of that.

When I think about growth, I reflect on different forms of growing pains. Children experience actual physical discomfort as their bones grow—painful, yet necessary for their development. I think about my own growing pains during early sobriety—feeling like I didn’t fit in, like I had nothing to offer, wondering, “Who am I becoming? Do I even like this version of myself?” I also remember the discomfort when I left my corporate career. Moving to a new state, starting over in a new town—there was so much excitement mixed with fear, anxiety, and a deep sense of the unknown.

But the real shift didn’t happen until I was in the thick of it—until I had the awareness of, holy crap, I’m really doing this. It felt stretchy, uncomfortable, even painful. There was also a sense of mourning for the person I used to be, a grief for what I was leaving behind. But through it all, there’s always a light on the other side of the storm. Once you emerge, there's so much pride and joy, almost like you're seeing the world through new eyes.

It reminds me of a line from the song Turn! Turn! Turn! by The Byrds:
"To everything there is a season, turn, turn, turn,
And a time for every purpose under heaven."

This sentiment is also echoed in Ecclesiastes 3:1
"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven."

These words are a powerful reminder that growth—like the seasons—has its own rhythm, its own timing. Every season, even the uncomfortable ones, is part of the bigger picture, with a purpose we might not always see in the moment.

It’s like something I felt just this morning after coming back from a brisk walk with my rescue pup, Lucy. As we stepped into the warmth of spring, I said to her, “We made it, Lucy. We’re on the other side of winter.” It might sound simple but, in that moment, it meant everything to me—not just that we’ve entered spring, but that the seeds I’ve been planting are about to bloom.

Lucy wishes you a peaceful and joy filled spring!

Whether those seeds are literal, like the ones I’m planting in the garden, or metaphorical, like the ones I’ve been nurturing inside myself, the time for growth is here. It’s time to bloom.

As you navigate your own season of growth, I encourage you to stay aware of all that is happening for you, not to you. Remember, we’re in this together. As you tend to your own garden, you’re also nurturing others. Take care of yourself, my friend. I can’t wait to see what this season has in store for you.

A Gentle Invitation for Peace

As we embrace the discomfort of growth, it’s just as important to create space for rest, relaxation, and reconnection with ourselves. I’ve created a meditation called A Peaceful Place Meditation for Relaxation & Reconnection that I hope might be the perfect companion as you journey through this season of change.

In this gentle meditation, you’ll be guided to a personal sanctuary where you can relax, recharge, and let go of the stresses of the world. It’s a space where you can engage your senses and immerse yourself in tranquility. Whether you need a moment of stillness or a break in the middle of your busy day, this meditation is here to support you. You can return to this peaceful place anytime you need to reset and find comfort.

Click here to listen to the meditation, and let it help guide you to a place of peace.  And if you know anyone who may benefit from this week's musing, feel free to forward to a friend or family member!

With peace and love,

Angie
