navigating change

“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” - Carl Jung

Have you ever feel like change is on the horizon, but you don’t know what that change is—or what it will mean?

Sometimes it’s a decision we’ve made. Other times, it’s a decision that’s been made for us. And sometimes, it’s a shift we never saw coming. I’ll be completely honest: I’ve never been great with change. Even when it’s something I want, I find myself resisting it. Why is that? (Maybe a topic for a future musing.)

Lately, I’ve felt a swirling sense that change is near. And not just any change—something significant. The urgency I wrote about in a recent musing has transformed into anticipation, but with no clear direction. (If you missed that one, click below to catch up.

This is what it looks like for me:

  • Sudden tears when nothing's really wrong

  • Agitation over things that normally roll off my back

  • Over-analyzing and second-guessing

  • A restless, twired feeling (tired + wired, a mentor of mine used this expression and it really resonates with me)

  • Sweaty palms—my old friend, anxiety, showing up again

  • Pressure… but only the pressure I’m placing on myself

I recently told a friend it feels like swirling. And, after a period of exploration, I realized—oh, I know this feeling. It’s my body and spirit preparing me. And, while it feels unsteady, there’s something sacred in it.

How to sit in the space of change?

A dear friend and fellow coach asked me, “What are you scared of?”

I sat with that question. The honest answer? The unknown. Not knowing if I’m ready. Wondering if I can handle what’s next.

So, I got quiet. I got honest.
I prayed. I meditated.
I did my grounding practices.
Called my mom. Walked in nature. Laughed.

Eventually, this thought came to me: Whatever is ahead, I’ve got this AND so do you!

I’ve done the work. I continue to do the work.
No matter what lies ahead, I can walk this path—with my faith, my community, and my trust in myself and God’s plan.

Because, here’s what I know:
Everything I’ve been through, everything I’ve experienced—those are the pieces and parts of me. I’ve learned to honor and love them all.

Let’s see what God has in store. One thing I’ve learned?
Make your plans… and He’ll show you His.

In the space between your plans and His, give yourself grace. Whether you're preparing for change, sensing it ahead, or reeling from what’s already shifted—go at your pace.

Honor your inner wisdom and listen for the quiet whisper within.
You don't need to rush. You don’t need to be anywhere other than where you are right now.

Be kind and gentle with yourself, my friend.
And, if the weight feels heavy, please reach out—to a friend, a loved one, someone you trust. You don’t have to carry it alone.

A gentle invitation to pause and reflect:

Journal prompts for navigating life transitions with mindfulness and faith.

“Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you.”
Parker J. Palmer

When change is swirling and your footing feels uncertain, here are a few journal prompts to ground and support you:

  1. What part of me is resisting this change—and what might it need to feel supported or safe?

  2. What is the invitation in this change? What might life be asking of me?

  3. What’s one truth I know about myself that I can return to in this season of uncertainty?

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6–7

With love, grace, and encouragement.
